When you should not use this medicine
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to ACE inhibitors
such as captopril (Capoten®) or lisinopril (Prinivil®) or to hydrochlorothiazide
(Hydrodiuril®, Chlorzide®) or other thiazide diuretics such as Dyazide®, Diuril®, or
Hygroton®.
How to use and store this medicine
Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often. Keep all medicine out of the
reach of children.
Tablets:
- Take on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a
meal.
- Store away from heat and direct light in a tightly closed
container.
If you miss a dose:
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
- If it is almost time for your next regularly scheduled dose,
skip the one you forgot and continue with your regular schedule.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
How to use this medicine
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter
medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking cortisone
medicines, Colestid®, Questran®, Lanoxin®, lithium, methenamine, potassium medicines
such as K-Lyte® or K-Tab®, or other diuretics ("water pills") such as
Aldactone®, Dyrenium®, or Hygroton®.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking
medicine for a cold, cough, appetite control, or sinus problems.
- Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
Warnings
- Check with your doctor before taking this medicine if you
have kidney or liver disease, lupus, stroke, diabetes, gout, or pancreatitis.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor
before taking this medicine. If you think you may have become pregnant while using this
medicine, check with your doctor right away.
- This medicine may increase the level of sugar in your blood,
which can worsen diabetes.
- This medicine can worsen gout.
- You may be more sensitive to sunlight while taking this
medicine. Use a sunscreen when outdoors. Avoid tanning beds and sunlamps.
Side effects
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Hoarseness or trouble swallowing
- Chest tightness or trouble breathing
- Fast, slow, or pounding heartbeat
- Swelling of, face, mouth, or tongue
- Skin rash, severe itching or hives
- Muscle weakness or cramps
- Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
- Weakness or heavy feeling in legs
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Cough (dry, continuing)
- Drowsiness or dizziness
- Stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Changes in taste
- Headache
