Description
Angiotensin (AN-jee-oh-ten-sin)-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors treat high blood
pressure, certain heart conditions, and kidney disease.

When you should not use this medicine
You should not use this medicine if you are pregnant or have had an allergic reaction to
any ACE-inhibitor such as Capoten®, Monopril®, Vasotec®, Altace, Lotensin®,
Accupril®, Zestril, or Prinivil®.
How to use and store this medicine
Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often. Keep all medicine out of the
reach of children.
Tablets/Capsules:
- Take this medicine exactly as your doctor ordered. Even if
you feel fine your blood pressure can still be high.
- Store at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and
direct light.
If you miss a dose:
- Take your medicine as soon as you remember that you have
missed your dose.
- If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to
take your medicine and skip the missed dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
How to use this medicine
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before
taking any other medicine, including over-
the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Tell your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:
potassium-containing medicines such as K-Lyte® or K-Tab®, or diuretics ("water
pills") such as Aldactone®, Dyrenium®, or Midamor®.
- Tell your doctor if you use salt substitutes.
- Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
Warnings
- Check with your doctor before taking if you have diabetes,
heart, kidney, or liver disease, or lupus.
- Talk with your doctor before taking this medicine if you are
pregnant or breastfeeding.
- ACE inhibitors may make you dizzy or drowsy. Be careful if
you drive a car or use machinery.
- Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking an ACE
inhibitor before having any kind of surgery.
- ACE inhibitors keep the body from losing potassium.
Sometimes the amount of potassium in your blood can get too high (hyperkalemia), which can
be dangerous.
Side effects
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Chest pain
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
- Hoarseness
- Skin rash, severe itching or hives
- Swelling of face, mouth, hands or feet
- Numbness or tingling in hands or feet
- Fever, chills, or sore throat
- Extreme weakness
- Yellowing of skin or eyes
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Cough (dry and continuing)
- Headache
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or tiredness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea or constipation
