- LASIX (furosemide)
Treats fluid retention (edema) and high blood
pressure.
WHEN YOU SHOULD NOT USE THIS MEDICINE
You should not use this medicine if you have
ever had an allergic reaction to furosemide or if you are allergic to sulfa medicine or
other diuretic drugs such as Bumex®.
HOW TO USE AND STORE THIS MEDICINE
Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often.
Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
Tablets:
- May be taken with or without food.
- Store at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and
direct light.
- Throw the tablets away if they have changed color.
If you miss a dose:
- Take your medicine as soon as you remember that you have
missed your dose.
- If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to
take your medicine and skip the missed dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
DRUGS AND FOODS TO AVOID
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking cortisone
drugs, Digoxin®, clofibrate, lithium, or other "water pills" (diuretics) or
medicines to treat high blood pressure.
- Avoid drinking a lot of alcohol.
WARNINGS
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have
kidney or liver disease, gout, pancreatitis, or diabetes.
- You may need to eat or drink foods containing potassium to
prevent potassium loss while taking this medicine - check with your doctor. Some symptoms
of low potassium are muscle cramps and weakness.
- This medicine may increase the level of sugar in your blood
and can worsen diabetes.
- This medicine can worsen gout.
- This medicine can make your skin sensitive to sunlight. Use
a sunscreen when outdoors. Avoid sunlamps or tanning beds.
- To avoid dizziness from this medicine, stand up slowly from
a sitting or lying position.
SIDE EFFECTS
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side
effects:
- Irregular heartbeat
- Skin rash, hives, or itching
- Unexplained fever or sore throat, unusual bruising
- Ringing in the ears or trouble hearing
- Yellowing of skin or eyes
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, or headache
- Dry mouth
- Diarrhea

BY THIS MEDICINE, TELL YOUR DOCTOR.
