beclomethasone (Beclovent®).
HOW TO USE AND STORE THIS MEDICINE
Inhalation:
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to take and how
often.
- Read and follow the instructions that came with this
medicine.
- If you are also using a bronchodilator such as Proventil®,
use it about 5 minutes before using fluticasone.
- Shake the inhaler immediately before each use.
- Take off the cap and look at the mouthpiece to make sure it
is clean. Test spray into the air before using the inhaler for the first time or if the
inhaler has not been used for 1-to-3 weeks.
- Breathe out fully, trying to get as much air out of the
lungs as possible. Put the mouthpiece just in front of your mouth and hold the canister
upright.
- Open your mouth and breathe in slowly and deeply (like
yawning), and at the same time press down firmly on the top of the canister once. Hold
your breath for about 5-to-10 seconds, then breathe out slowly.
- If you are supposed to take more than one inhalation, wait
1-to-2 minutes before you take the next inhalation. Follow the same steps for the next
inhalation, starting with shaking the inhaler.
- After you finish your treatment, rinse your mouth with
water.
- Take the metal canister out of the case, and wash the
inhaler with warm water. Let it dry completely before the next treatment.
- If you think the canister is empty, you can test it by
putting it in a bowl of cold water. If the canister floats, it is empty.
- Store the medicine at room temperature away from direct
sunlight, heat, or fire. Do not freeze or poke holes in the canister.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
If you miss a dose:
- Use the inhaler as soon as possible, unless it is almost
time for your next dose.
- Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next
regular dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
DRUGS AND FOODS TO AVOID

WARNINGS
- Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you have
diabetes, ulcers, or any kind of infection, such as an eye infection or tuberculosis (TB).
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor
before using this medicine.
- Fluticasone will not stop an acute asthma attack. Your
doctor may give you another medicine to use that will work quickly if you have an acute
attack. Make sure you know which inhaler to use during an acute attack.
- It may take 1-to-2 weeks before this medicine starts to
help. Keep using the medicine on a regular schedule, but You should not use it more often
than your doctor ordered. If your asthma does not get better or if it gets worse during
this time, call your doctor.
- If you are also taking an oral (by mouth) corticosteroid
medicine, such as prednisone, to control your asthma, do not stop taking it without first
checking with your doctor. You will need to take smaller and smaller doses before
completely stopping the medicine.
- Some patients who switched from an oral corticosteroid to an
inhaler had severe medical problems when they were injured, had surgery, or had an
infection. You may need to carry a card that shows you have stopped using oral steroid
