WHEN YOU SHOULD NOT USE THIS MEDICINE
You should not use this medicine if you have had an
allergic reaction to tamsulosin. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to other alpha
blockers such as prazosin (Minipress®), terazosin (Hytrin®), or doxazosin (Cardura®).
HOW TO USE AND STORE THIS MEDICINE
Capsules:
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to take and how
often.
- Try to take the medicine about 30 minutes after the same
meal every day.
- Swallow the capsules whole. Do not break, crush, chew, or
open them.
- Store the capsules at room temperature, away from heat,
moisture, and direct light.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
If you miss a dose:
- Take the missed dose as soon as possible, unless it is
almost time for your next dose.
- Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next
regular dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
- If you stop taking the medicine for several days, call your
doctor for instructions.
DRUGS AND FOODS TO AVOID
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other
medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking cimetidine
(Tagamet®) or a blood thinner such as Coumadin®.
- Tamsulosin should not be taken with other alpha blocker
medicines, such as prazosin (Minipress®), terazosin (Hytrin®), or doxazosin (Cardura®).
- WARNINGS:
- Tamsulosin may make you dizzy or lightheaded, especially
after the first dose or if your dose is changed. Avoid driving or using machinery until
you know how the medicine will affect you.
- Dizziness may be worse if you get up too fast after sitting
or lying down. Getting up slowly from a sitting or lying position may help.
- This medicine is given only to men. It should not be given
to women.
- You will need to see your doctor regularly while taking this
medicine. Keep all appointments your doctor makes for you.
