When you should not use this medicine
You should not use this medicine if you have asthma or if you have had an allergic
reaction to timolol or other beta blocker medicines such as betaxolol (Betoptic®) or
levobunolol (Betagan®).
How to use and store this medicine
Solution (eye drops ):
- Wash your hands with soap and water.
- Avoid touching the dropper to your eye or to anything else.
- Lie down or tilt your head back.
- With your index finger, pull down the lower lid of your eye
to form a pocket. Drop the correct number of drops prescribed into the pocket. Press your
finger against the inner corner of your eye for 1 minute.
- Do not touch, wipe off, or rinse the dropper.
- Keep eyelids closed for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Do not keep eye drops past expiration date.
- Store in original container at room temperature. Container
should always be closed tightly.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
If you miss a dose:
- If dosing schedule is once a day, use as soon as possible.
- If not remembered until the next day, use only once that
day.
- If dosing schedule is more than once a day, use as soon as
possible unless it is close to the time for the next dose.
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose
and go back to your usual time to use your medicine.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
How to use this medicine
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter
medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have emphysema, asthma,
bronchitis, heart disease, thyroid disorders, or diabetes before using this medicine.
- This medicine may decrease or increase the level of sugar in
blood and cover up symptoms of very low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor
before using this medicine.
Side effects
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects:
- Severe eye irritation or inflammation.
- Slow or irregular heartbeat
- Chest pain.
- Wheezing or difficulty breathing
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Stinging or burning of the eye(s).
- Redness, itching or watery eye(s).
- Eye(s) sensitive to light.
- Dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion.
