Treats infections. Belongs to a class of drugs
called sulfonamides or sulfa drugs.

You should not use this medicine if you have had an
allergic reaction to sulfa drugs (such as Gantrisin® or Gantanol®) or trimethoprim
(Proloprim®, or Trimpex®).
Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to take and how
often. Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
Suspension (liquid):
- Shake well before using.
- Carefully measure the dose with a marked measuring spoon or
medicine cup. Take with a full glass of water and drink several glasses of water every
day.
- Keep taking the medicine until your doctor tells you to
stop. Your infection might come back if you stop taking the medicine too soon.
- Store at room temperature away from direct light. Do not
freeze.
Tablets:
- Take with a full glass of water and drink several glasses of
water every day.
- May be taken with or without food.
- Keep taking the medicine until it is gone (or until your
doctor tells you to stop). Your infection might come back if you stop taking the medicine
too soon.
- Store the tablets at room temperature away from heat, direct
light, and moisture.
If you miss a dose:
- Take the missed dose as soon as possible.
- If it is almost time for your next regular dose, wait until
then to take your medicine and skip the missed dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
- Call your doctor immediately if you get a skin rash or
itching from this medicine.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have kidney or liver
disease, asthma, or allergies.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor
before taking this medicine.
- You may be more sensitive to sunlight while taking this
medicine. Use a sunscreen if you need to be outdoors.
Side effects
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side
effects:
- Severe itching or hives
- Trouble breathing or swallowing
- Sore throat and fever
- Extreme weakness
- Yellowing of skin or eyes
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Diarrhea, nausea
- Loss of appetite
- Dizziness
- Sensitivity to sunlight
