When you should not use this medicine
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to any type of
penicillin.
How to use and store this medicine
Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often. This medicine may be taken with
food or on an empty stomach. Taking the medicine with food may help decrease stomach
upset. It is important to keep taking the medicine for as long as your doctor tells you,
even if you feel better. Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
Tablets:
- Store at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and
direct light.
If you miss a dose:
- Take the missed dose as soon as possible.
- Take the rest of the doses for that day at evenly spaced
times.
- You should not use two doses at the same time
How to use this medicine
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the counter
medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking probenecid
(Benemid®) or disulfiram (Antabuse®).
- Birth control pills may not work as well while taking
penicillin. Use another kind of birth control while you are taking this medicine. Check
with your doctor.
Warnings
- If severe diarrhea occurs, check with your doctor before
taking any medicine to stop the diarrhea.
- Amoxicillin/clavulanate may cause incorrect results with
some urine sugar tests used by patients with diabetes.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor
before taking this medicine.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have ever had an allergic
reaction to any cephalosporin antibiotic such as Keflex® or Ceclor® before you take this
medicine.
Side effects
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects:
- Skin rash, blistering or peeling skin
- Swelling
- Wheezing or trouble breathing
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Diarrhea
- Nausea, upset stomach
- Vaginal itching or discharge
