- AMINOMUX (generic Aredia, pramidronate)
Description
Treats hypercalcemia of malignancy (too much calcium in the blood caused by tumors),
Paget's disease, and bone metastases (spread of cancer to the bones) from certain types of
cancer. Belongs to a group of medicines called bisphosphonates.

When you should not use this medicine
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to pamidronate or
other bisphosphonates such as alendronate (Fosamax®), etidronate (Didronel®),
risedronate (Actonel), or tiludronate (Skelid®).
How to use and store this medicine
Intravenous (IV):
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how
often it will be given.
- Your medicine will be given directly into a vein, usually in
your arm or chest. This is called intravenous (in-tra-VEEN-us), or IV infusion.
- A nurse or other caregiver trained to give intravenous drugs
will give your treatment.
- Sometimes you or a family member can be taught how to give
your medicine at home. Make sure you understand all instructions before giving yourself an
injection.
- If you get your treatments at a clinic, the staff at the
clinic will keep your medicine there.
- If you get your treatments at home, you may need to store
your medicine. Store at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children.
- If you have your treatments at home, you should be given a
special container for the used needles, medicine bag or bottles, and tubes. Put the
container where children or pets cannot reach it.
If you miss a dose:
- If you miss a dose, call your doctor, home health caregiver,
or clinic where you get your treatments for instructions.
How to use this medicine
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicine, including over-the-counter
medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Warnings
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor
before taking this medicine.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have kidney disease,
anemia, or low blood count.
- Your doctor may want to check your blood while you are
receiving this medicine. Be sure to keep all appointments.
Side effects
Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects:
- Bloody vomit or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- Bloody stools, or black tarry stools
- Fainting
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Shortness of breath, or trouble breathing
If you have problems with these less serious side effects,
talk with your doctor.
- Burning or pain with urination, or more frequent urination
- Constipation
- Headache
- Loss of appetite
- Mild fever that goes away
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Pain in back, bones, or joints
- Redness, swelling, or pain where the needle is placed
- Runny nose
- Stomach pain
- Tiredness or sleepiness
